Welcome to the Albany Centre website. I hope you will find it a helpful and informative introduction to the Centre and the way we work. As the Key Stage 4 Pupil Referral Unit for the Western Area of Suffolk, we provide for students with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. We believe that our students are entitled to a challenging and stimulating curriculum that will promote personal achievement and development.
Our expectations of learning and behaviour are high and I am extremely proud of our record in helping our students overcome previous difficulties to achieve their goals and qualifications. Our ethos is based on high standards of teaching to deliver structured educational programmes with intensive learning and behaviour support.
What makes our Centre successful?
We employ highly qualified teaching and support staff, with expertise in working with challenging students.
We use a team-teaching approach and our staff collaborate in planning, delivery and review of teaching and learning across the curriculum.
The curriculum is a balance of formal and informal education. All of our students follow GCSE courses in the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science. The core curriculum is complemented by extensive vocational and work-related programmes, including courses that lead to NVQ qualifications and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
Each student has an individual education/behaviour programme and curriculum that are flexible and tailored to meet diverse needs and interests.
Success rates are high both in examination results and in students’ progression to college or employment and longer-term outcomes.
We work in partnership with mainstream schools, other trainers and external agencies to ensure our students’ have access to the best resources and support available.
Our Management Committee is fully committed to the working of the Centre and is proactive in its support.
Our door is always open to parents, other professionals and students who have an interest in the centre. Please contact us if you have any enquiries.
